Skin Laxity
Home > Skin Conditions > Skin Laxity
As you age, you lose important components to the skin’s structure. Collagen and elastin begin to break down, hyaluronic acid is depleted. Your skin will begin to lose volume and you will notice texture change, laxity and sagging. Aging isn’t the only culprit in the changes in your skin. Genetics, stress, sun exposure, weight fluctuations, and smoking will also reduce the collagen and elastin in our skin.
Skin tightening devices such as Ultherapy and Thermage can reduce skin laxity and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, firming the skin and improving the tone and texture.
Laser resurfacing treatments including Fraxel Dual and Fraxel Re:Pair are also excellent treatment options for facial lines and wrinkles, uneven texture and crepiness.
Injectable treatments, such as Sculptra and Hyaluronic acid fillers, Voluma XC and Restylane Lyft can create volume, reducing the appearance of skin laxity, and smooth out facial folds and wrinkles.
At Dermatology & Laser of Del Mar, Deborah H. Atkin, M.D. encourages patients to take a multi-step approach to treating skin laxity. The first step is prevention. Minimizing the factors that are damaging to your skin will slow the aging process. Sun avoidance and sun protection are key components to this.
While the variety of in-office skin saving treatments will help to restore your skins youthful appearance, a comprehensive at-home skin care regimen is a cornerstone to healthier, more vibrant skin.
