Non-Surgical Skin Resurfacing Using Fraxel® Laser Trio
Fraxel® lasers are an excellent choice for improving the tone, texture and overall health of the skin. Each treatment is highly customizable to provide a variety of benefits with very little downtime.
At Dermatology & Laser of Del Mar, Deborah H. Atkin, M.D. offers three distinctive Fraxel® lasers to non-surgically combat aging and pre-cancerous changes in the skin. Here is a brief overview of the three Fraxel® lasers:
Re:store™ Laser by Fraxel®: Particularly effective on acne and surgical scars, the Re:store™ fractional erbium laser is typically performed in a series of treatments and is designed to correct mild to moderate signs of aging and sun damage. Downtime is minimal, with mild to moderate redness and some “puffiness” for 2-3 days.
DUAL Laser by Fraxel®: The Fraxel® Dual offers the Re:store’s fractional erbium technology integrated with a thulium laser.
This laser skin resurfacing option offers dramatic improvements for conditions related to pigment – such as age spots, sun damage and Actinic Keratosis (AK). The DUAL laser treats at superficial and medium skin depths and is particularly effective for treating larger areas of the body including arms, legs, back and chest.
With Fraxel® DUAL we generally recommend 4-6 treatments (depending on skin condition), 3-4 weeks apart, Many of our patients then opt for maintenance treatments every 6 to 12 months to maintain their new, fresher appearance.

Re:pair® Laser by Fraxel®: Best suited for moderate to advanced sun damage and aging changes, the Re:pair® laser offers substantial improvement for deep creases, uneven texture, and crepey skin. It is especoally well suited for treating loose skin around the eyes and deeper perioral lines. Re:pair® is commonly performed in a single treatment and works well for patients who would like to see results after one treatment session.
At Dermatology & Laser of Del Mar we also offer the Re:Pair 600 micron. This fractional CO2 laser skin treatment is only available in select practices across the country. The 600 micron is excellent for improving crepey skin, fine lines, wrinkles and rough actinic texture. It can wipe away years of sun damage in a single treatment. Many of our 600 micron patients opt to have annual treatments performed to maintain a healthy, vibrant appearance to their skin.
At our medical and cosmetic dermatology practice, patients can develop a customized treatment plan with Dr. Atkin utilizing one or more Fraxel® lasers. We will also incorporate other treatment modalities into your treatment plan to yield the best results. Patients typically receive several treatments with gradual improvements after each one.
